The Boulevard of the Allies is one of the main roadway entrances from Downtown into Oakland. Oakland is the region’s premier medical, educational and cultural center as well as a vibrant city neighborhood that is not only a destination; but also serves as a through corridor between downtown and the eastern neighborhoods and suburbs.

The Boulevard of the Allies' Bridges are being redesigned as a "Gateway" with unique bridge features, architectural treatments such as concrete color, wall textures, pilasters and beautiful landscaping, and enhanced pedestrian amenities.

Important Update!

Friday, May 2, 2008: Outbound traffic to Oakland on Forbes Avenues through the Boulevard of the Allies construction zone, will be reduced to a single lane, starting Monday night. Normally, Forbes accommodates three lanes of traffic in that area, but since the $29 million "gateway" project got under way earlier this year, only two lanes have been open. Now, only one lane will be open until late August between Moultrie Street and McDevitt Place. Traffic entering Forbes Avenue from the Parkway East outbound will be free-flowing to keep it from backing up onto the parkway, requiring motorists on Forbes to stop. While the lanes are closed, workers will construct new drainage facilities and a retaining wall along Forbes as part of the ramp, bridge and roadway reconfiguration.

Monday, March 17, 2008: Fifth Avenue Lane Closures Begin Monday in Oakland. PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that single lane closures will occur on Fifth Avenue inbound (westbound toward downtown Pittsburgh) beginning at Robinson Street continuing for approximately 1,000 feet in the Oakland area. The lane closures will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through late April. Read more >

Thursday, January 3, 2008:
The Boulevard of the Allies Bridge in Oakland closed to all thru traffic.

Commuters can use the slip ramp to access the Boulevard of the Allies and 376 West by keeping in the center lane on Fifth Avenue when passing Craft Avenue. The video to the left demonstrates the new route available to commuters.
