PennDOT is Prepared for Approaching Winter Storm; Motorists Urged to Avoid Unnecessary Travel: Drivers Reminded to Pack Emergency Kit
With significant snow accumulations forecast for much of Pennsylvania on Feb. 5 and 6, PennDOT today urged motorists to avoid traveling Friday night through Saturday evening and urged those who must venture out to pack an emergency survival kit.
"Travel during the storm will be extremely risky and motorists really need to ask themselves if their trip is an absolute necessity or if it can be avoided until after the storm has passed," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Highway Administration Scott Christie, P.E. "The best decision is to avoid unnecessary travel, but if you must go, be sure that your vehicle is prepared and that you have an emergency kit packed."
A basic kit should include non-perishable food, water, blanket, small shovel and warm clothes. When preparing an emergency kit, motorists should take into account special needs of passengers such as baby food, pet supplies or medications and pack accordingly.

It has come to our attention that on the morning of Wednesday, October 7, many Port Authority bus riders may have received flyers incorrectly detailing changes to bus routes.
These flyers were not authorized by the Port Authority of Allegheny County and contained misinformation regarding proposed changes to Port Authority routes under the Transit Development Plan. Unfortunately, it is believed that the flyers were created and distributed by a handful of disgruntled drivers.
Contrary to the information contained within these flyers, the Port Authority will not be implementing any changes to service until Spring 2010 at the earliest.
All riders are encouraged to visit the Port Authority's Transit Development Plan website for accurate and detailed information regarding proposed changes to the system. The Port Authority is also happy to answer specific questions about the proposed changes by phone at (412) 442-2000 or (412) 231-7007 for TTY service.
